Modern technology has provided us amazing advancement and speed and has significantly improved our quality of life. It has made our cities bustle with activity and productivity that we sometimes find ourselves overwhelmed by it all.

So we turn back to mother nature for some peace and quite. When we get too stressed out with our daily hustle and bustle, we go camping.

However, these days, going out camping is not the same as it was many years back where we tend to leave everything behind and go to some secluded forest or location with only a few clothes, matches, food and tent. Today we could, if we wanted to, bring a significant portion of home with us while we try to retreat from the stressful routine of our daily lives.

Introducing portable and silent gas generators

Imagine yourself being able to watch television while on such a retreat. Or how about being able to go online and do a little web browsing inside your tent or while having a camp fire. While the entire idea of retreating and camping in the jungle or forest is to leave it all behind for some relaxation, there are some things in our modern lives that many of us will not be able to do without.

Electric generators, particularly those that are portable and silent, will come in handy for this purpose. These machines are basically mini power plants that you can take with you when you go out there far away from the nearest electrical sockets. You can take them with you to power your mobile home, for road trips, or as part of your camping gear so you can have electricity even while you are in the middle of a jungle.

What should you look for in a portable and silent power generator?

Generators, as one would expect, can come in a host of different sizes. The size will usually depend on its intended use. And as expected, generators for camping use should be small enough to be carried around and silent enough that it does not disrupt the peace and quiet that is what we are after when we go out communing with nature in a camping expedition.

Powering small televisions, lights and laptops will require a generator capable of putting out around 1000 to 2000 watts of electric juice. This is no problem as there are a lot of companies producing generators that are suited for this purpose. Honda, for example, has an entire line (Honda EU generator models 1000 to 6500 watts) made for varying degrees of portability.

For a camping trip, a unit capable of 1000 watts should be more than enough. Just be sure to bring extra fuel so you do not run out.

Other portable silent generator tips

For safety, all you need to remember is that you need to place the running generator sufficiently far away from where people hang out. Most generators are basically internal combustion engines so the danger of carbon monoxide exhaust inhalation exists. You also need to protect the unit from getting wet by the rain so a suitable rain protection is also required.

The question on which fuel type to go for is also a consideration because the most common types of silent generators come in gasoline or diesel engines. Generally speaking, diesel engines are better in fuel efficiency and durability but may become difficult to deal with in cold weather. Gasoline fueled generators require regular maintenance to last but should perform just as well as any diesel generator.

If weight is an issue, you should be careful in determining your wattage needs as the bigger your power needs are, the heavier the generator gets. For more tips on how to determine your needs, check out this generator wattage guide.

Going camping can become extra fun if you plan it well and bring all the things you will need. Having electricity while in the middle of the forest may be a little ironic and counter intuitive but for most of us who can’t live without a cellphone or a laptop, portable and silent generators can be a life-saving contraption.
