Installing Dummy CCTV Camera Devices – Good or Bad?

Most people, home owners or business owners, acknowledge the fact that one of the most integral elements of any security system is the security or surveillance camera. It allows the owners and security personnel to have eyes (and even ears) in strategic locations of the home or business properties so that they are able to see and document (record) whatever is going on. In terms of security, security cameras give them a sort of a deterrent measure especially if the devices are installed in conspicuous places that are seen by outsiders. They could also become an early warning system that allows you to immediately see any threats to your property like an approaching suspicious individual who may be there to burglarize your home or business establishment.

Supplementing your existing system with fake or dummy cameras

Since security systems do not come free these days and can become really expensive because of the electronic devices that you need to buy and the professional installation needed to implement some of them, sometimes you could supplement your existing system using dummy CCTV camera devices.

The basic intent in using dummy or fake security devices is to psychologically scare of would-be attackers. Contrary to what people think, burglars do not just randomly pick targets because they have a systematic target-picking strategy that prioritizes properties that offer minimal resistance or security. If they see a home or a business establishment with a security that is reinforced by security devices such as a CCTV camera, they will most likely scratch it off their targets list since getting caught is something that no burglar will risk unnecessarily.

A dummy CCTV camera will work as a deterrent if the intruder does not know it is a dummy. Hence, it is important to choose dummy camera designs that look like they’re real. Those that have wires and cords are the best ones because they will look like they are connected to a network or CCTV system. Also, finding ones that have LED light indicators will make them more effective.

Aside from dummy cameras, home or business owners could also use home security stickers to put psychological fear on attackers. Security stickers are basically stickers that provide warning to outsiders about a home’s security system. It usually indicates whether or not a home is guarded by dogs or any electronic home defense system. Some people make use of fake security stickers just to deter any possible crime on their property.

Using fake security devices are not something that you should do lightly. It is highly advised that you use them only as supplement to an actual working system or as a temporary security measure while you are unable to implement a real one. Using them as your sole defense is not advised and may even be dangerous.

You don’t want to announce to anyone that you are using fake security cameras. You want to let everyone think, except the people that need to know, that you have more than one security camera

You will have no video of the vandalism, and you could have avoided the entire mess by just buying a real camera. You can even by a cheap IP camera that doesn't requires tapes AND you can stream it 24/7! Check this one out http://www.webcamproshop.com/Axis-M1011-H-264-Netw -- under $200 and worth every penny!
