A Primer on Outdoor Security Camera Systems
67The outdoor surveillance camera has grown in stature in the security industry because it is definitely one of the most effective security devices out there as far as deterrence and detection is concerned. They are great at capturing and recording any eventualities happening within the confines of any property. However, in setting up such a system, one of the dilemmas that are faced by home or property owners is on which type of outdoor cameras to go for. Basically, outdoor cameras can be divided into two main groups: the wired and wireless outdoor security camera systems.
Wired outdoor camera systems are those that require wired connection to its monitoring panel (usually a television system) as well as its power source. The most popular incarnation of this type of video surveillance systems is the closed-circuit television camera (more popularly known as the CCTV camera). The CCTV camera is basically a camera connected to a closed-circuit television monitor where all the video feed is sent for monitoring and recording. One weakness of this type of surveillance systems is that a burglar can easily disable it by cutting the wiring connections. Hence, opting for this type of security cameras will require professional installation since you will need to make sure that the circuit is not easily accessed to make it resistant to any form of disconnection efforts or sabotage.
If you wish to work around such a weakness, you can opt for an outdoor wireless security camera system. These types of security cameras do away with wired connections and instead make use of wireless communication protocols like Bluetooth, GSM, etc. The beauty of wireless security camera systems lie in the fact that there won’t be any wires that burglars or intruders can go after to disable its surveillance capabilities. There may even be no power cords involved that can also be cut off because there are cameras that run on batteries. Furthermore, you also get the power to install the devices anywhere without having to consider wiring provisions. You can easily install them in a hard-to-reach spot and you won’t have to worry that any burglar can get to it to disable it or destroy it.
The only problem is that some wireless security cameras can be more expensive than their wired counterparts but since they are easier to install and will probably not require any professional home security installation services, this option might turn out to be cheaper in the long run (consider also that these devices will run on batteries so you will get some savings in electrical consumption).
Whatever camera you choose, outdoor security cameras have become indispensable tools in our fight against criminality most especially those that are perpetrated against our home, property and business. These days, investing in such security systems is a necessity rather than a luxury.
