Patio Door Lock – Enhance Your Patio Security

Patio is the Spanish word for back garden or backyard.  It is an outdoor space normally used for dining or recreation.  It may be a roofless inner yard or a paved area between the residence and the garden.  The patio is accessed from the main house by means of a glass patio door.  Through this entrance, the homeowner may view the garden or the activity from inside the house.  This partition serves as the window and door which must be kept lock when not in use for security reasons.

A typical patio door usually stands seven feet high with a width of four feet. Some homes have two doors framed side by side, and these are referred to as French doors, more convenient and spacious.  Others would opt for sliding doors to save space.  The right style of patio door must be practical, complementing the structure of the house and enhancing the garden. But the most important of all is that the door must be properly secured especially at night.

The excellent patio door lock must endure the constant use of the entrance to the house and into the yard.  It must withstand the elements that include the rain, snow, wind and the heat of the sun.  The door lock must be out of reach of the children to avoid accidents, particularly if there is a pool in the yard.

There are many kinds of door locks at popular prices. The step down clamp locks the slide track into position and prevents the panels or door from moving. Regular maintenance would include wiping of the patio door, its frame, the seals and the inspection of the door lock.  If the patio door is made of wood, polishing or painting it as often as necessary would prolong the useful life.  The same diligent inspection and cleaning would be needed if the patio door is made of glass or aluminum. Screws must be cleaned and worn out ones must be replaced.

Caring for the patio door and the lock are good investments of time and money for obvious reasons: protection of the young members of the family, prevent intruders and minimize replacements of parts, or even the entire lock or the door itself.
