Metal roofing has been around for a very long time. One of its version, the corrugated metal roofing types, saw a lot of use in the past but received some bad publicity due to poor manufacturing standards and misuse. People switched to other types of material and the corrugated metal types went into a bit of a hiatus.

However, recent improvements in metal roofing and the science behind it have ushered in a new and improved version metal roofing and hence, corrugated metal roofs are seeing a comeback of sorts.

One of the most significant improvements was a process known as galvanization. Galvanized corrugated metal roofing is better than the non-galvanized variety because they are now more resistant to corrosion. They have become stronger and corrosion resistant that regular use should see it live up to 50 years of use!

In the past they were only used for non-residential structures like factories, barns and other farm and backyard structures but with the improvements performed on its modern incarnation, more people are starting to see it as a reliable residential roofing option.

Corrugated metal roofs are metallic roofs that have rippling or ribbing on it. They are thin and lightweight yet strong enough to withstand the elements. They also put very little stress on the mounting structures, e.g. walls, posts, etc., and are relatively easier to install compared to other types of roofing styles and materials.

The galvanization makes metal roofing so much better in that they become even safer as they are known to be fire-resistant and should be safe even in lighthing prone areas. Galvanized iron is also very environmentally friendly and is 100% recyclable. They are also very cheaply made and hence, also very cheaply bought.

Corrugated metal roofing for your home

If you wish to take advantage of the durability and reliability of galvanized corrugated iron roofing, you will need to take it into consideration in designing a new home. If you already have a home that is currently using a different type of roofing material, switching to corrugated metal roofs could be very advantageous in the long run. It is a win-win situation.

You get the total protection of metal roofing along with its strength against any extreme weather conditions be they hurricanes, storms and tornadoes (except acid rain which is a very extreme scenario).

They should be professionally installed if you wish to maximize its strength and minimize its weaknesses. Calling your carpenter or your architect to have it done is one way. Or if you are a do-it-yourself type, there a lot of online resources that can help you install your metallic roofing.
